Museum & Art Gallery trip

On the 13th June our class went to the museum & the art gallery! It was great fun. At the Museum we made cars out of little pieces. At the Art Gallery we made a waka huia. 

Maths Talk at Hoon Hay School

At our school we work with a maths mate and share our thinking with them. We ask questions about our maths and if we aren't sure of something, we explain how we do it. We know that 2 brains are often better than one and we enjoy working collaboratively. 

Today Mya and I worked on solving this problem: 

1. Kyla, Mya and Grace went to the movies. Their tickets cost $14.60 each. How much did their tickets cost altogether?

Our answer was $33.80

At maths Faith and I worked out an addition problem. Together we used place value to solve the question. What strategy would you use?

Get NZ Writing

I have been exploring metaphors and descriptive writing through the ‘Get NZ writing’. Here is one of my metaphors that I have created:

Koru art

 For the last couple of weeks I have been creating my own koru art based on the work of Raewyn Harris. She is a New Zealand artist and you can look at her work on this link. 

I have enjoyed creating this masterpiece, and I hope you enjoy it too! 

Poetry

In writing I have used a poem by James K. Baxter as a starting point to write my own holiday poem. I hope you like it.

Camping  was usual enough;

It had a tent, a camp fire, some chairs,  and even a bag of

marshmallows .

Zoe, Anya  and I did what kids do -

Had toasted marshmallows, climbed trees, went on a adventure,

watched stars, and even slept in a tent

Doing nothing important.

This year I am in Cooper’s Whare - Room 16 and my teacher’s name is Mrs Holt.
